1: Why do you do what you do

I was born and raised on the coast of Maine and it’s my family’s tradition to work on the water. I absolutely love the ocean and I’m grateful to be able to spend my time working on it. I chose to raise oysters because they are a vital part of the ecosystem, they have an extremely positive effect on the marine environment in which they live, and they are also very sustainable. Oysters are an incredible protein source! It’s exciting to know oysters are being used to treat anxiety and depression by some holistic healers and doctors! Scientists are studying oysters because they believe they will unlock the key to healing some sicknesses and diseases because oysters are able to heal themselves of these. Oysters are changing the world in every way, shape, and form! I’m proud to be a part of it and be able to provide the world with an amazingly healthy food to eat!!!

2: When did you have your first oyster?

I honestly don’t know. I remember trying them and I wasn’t that fond of them at first. I think it’s because I wasn’t raised eating oysters. My mother is allergic to mollusks so I never had them growing up. I grew to really enjoy them. After learning about oysters’ incredible health benefits I started trying them with different mignonettes, using them more in my recipes and cooking, or serving them as appetizers. Oysters have certainly won me over! I love the experience oysters give to people who come to Maine. Visitors live coming here and enjoy shucking oysters for their first time. I hope people will visit my Instagram and FB page to get some really great recipe ideas. It’s been really fun to see people’s creations with our oysters! 3: What's your favorite way to eat oysters?

My absolute favorite is on the half shell with a blueberry mignonette! There is nothing better and it just tastes like Maine so much! I really love trying them with a variety of mignonettes too though, it’s always fun to try them with different flavor combinations. I can’t leave out my love for fried oysters in this. I love the health benefits of oysters and I know that it’s defeating the purpose when you fry them but they are seriously out of this world! Literally the best fried food I’ve ever had!

4: What were you doing before oyster farming?

Before oyster farming I was lobstering and I actually still do. I’m a lobster boat captain and an oyster farmer! It’s challenging running two different businesses and very demanding, mentally and physically, but I absolutely love what I do and wouldn’t change it for the world. My life belongs on the ocean; the saltwater is in my blood.

5: Where would your dream vacation be?

I’ve heard New Zealand is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I would love to go see it! I really love to travel so I try to take one vacation every year. There’s so many places I’d love to see and experience, it’s hard to choose just one. I can list many: Hawaii, Maldives, Bora Bora, Costa Rica, Belize, Indonesia, Australia, Israel, Italy, France, Germany.
