1: Why do you do what you do?

Thats a good question! Not to get too deep, but I feel so much of what we do is driven by and shaped by influences from our childhood. I had a childhood built around security, love and strong community, both within my immediate family and then amplified by my summer generational community. I love oysters, but perhaps not as much from the pure food side, dare I say I would take pizza most days over them, I do really enjoy them however! :) But I LOVE all that they represent and can do for Maine, for an industry, for creativity, for direct meaningful connection and for simply an item to get really excited about! I do what I do because I feel I can spread this feeling of happiness, inspiration and excitement to many through both my endeavors with the Cape Small Farm and the lofty vision of the Maine Oyster Community to build a genuine, true & sustainable oyster/aquaculture/like minded slurping community.

2: When did you have your first oyster?

Haha.. I can't remember. I bet in college when taking a girl out to woo and impress her is my gut :)

3: What's your favorite way to eat oysters?

So I go back and forth on this one! Always raw, but that does not mean I would not be happy to eat the in any way shape or form! I like to start with raw, nothing on it however as they really do have a wonderful taste on their own. But then I enjoy adding mignonettes and even a hot sauce, which is perhaps sac religious to say. Long story short I like mixing it up I guess!

4: What were you doing before oyster farming?

I was figuring out life, I guess still doing that but specifically living part time in Medellin, Colombia learning some Spanish, but primarily in a deep programming zone of building a web system for real estate even though I was slowly transitioning out of the entire industry and into this one!

5: Where would your dream vacation be?

Wow...that is a good question Meg :) For somebody whom struggles to take even 1 hour off of what I am currently doing my 1st response is I don't know. Sometime I truly feel all that I am doing with this endeavor is a vacation aka my whole life is both a vacation and a perpetual day of tinkering and toiling away at various endeavors! BUT.. let me sit up for a second, go grab a bite of pizza and a diet coke and report back... 2 answers...remote cabin in the woods for a month with some awesome books or back on a sailboat to the Caribbean for 6 months.. ideal size 50ish feet
